there's a lot going on right now. some of it isn't so great, but a lot of it is amazing.

-someone should contribute vocals to my massive attack cover of teardrop.
-I might be playing a solo show at garfart, and it won't be all noise/minimalism for once. I'd be opening for the horns of happiness and the van allen belt on june 14th. I'd like to have some collaborators.
-guitar center's "the list" today. DUH. if you have one nearby, I suggest you go to it. I scored a $90 pedal last year for $40 with power supply. lots of sweet shit they're trying to turn, inventory-wise.
-I have this really crazy idea for a movie that I had a dream about a week or so ago. I think it'd be really good but I'm not sure how the execution would work. I could really use some help planning that shit out.
    -the videogame cover band. hmmm....
-the folks at 1and1 finally shut down my free webspace. well, they DID give me free webhosting for 4+ years when it was only supposed to be for 1 year.

"My life is music. And in some vague, mysterious, and subconscious way, I have always been driven by a taut inner spring which has propelled me to almost compulsively reach for perfection in music, often--in fact, mostly--at the expense of everything else in my life."
    --Stan Getz

I like when all of my stuff doesn't make sense. (=

    ITT: appreciate the kinks.
badass tribute show last night at the 31st st. pub with amoeba knievel, weird paul, styles for modern living, etc. WOW. all I can say is wow. I only knew some of the kinks' hits, but their b-sides and rarities are so awesome too.

highlight of the night: amoeba knievel's tommy amoeba dressing in an ape suit for king kong, and being dressed as superman underneath for (wish I could fly like) superman.

also: I am aware that this would be more appropriate for a community than a personal post, but fuck it. that's how I roll.

    art is resistance.
so I decided that my main music project this summer is going to be to start a band that combines the geekery of the advantage, and the danceyness of battles. it's going to involve covering 16-bit songs. see, the advantage and countless other bands cover nintendo songs. that's all great and well, but does no one think some of the best music composed for games were on the snes/genesis/tgfx16/etc? and maybe some pc too.

I need some people to help me with this. it'll be awesome. trust me. I'm thinking live instruments such as drums, guitar, bass, keys. maybe even do the battles-esque thing and play multiple instruments at once. and how about other crazy shit like maraccas, glockenspeil, etc?

the entire sonic the hedgehog OST medley? songs from the secret of monkey island? duke nukem? c'mon, help me realize a dream here, kids.

oh, and I got promoted a month ago. I make really nice money now. finally. and I'm going for another promotion tomorrow. wish me luck.

got a mile, got a mile, got an inch.
we almost opened for battles. but that's totally cool. go see them anyway on march 31st like I am @ gooski's.

we're playing advanced calculus tomorrow. tune in from 9-10 PM on WRCT at 88.3 FM or go to www.wrct.org to tune in.

oh, and does anyone want to go to this with me on friday? it's the official heinz history center uncorked party. 1700+ people, all-star ensemble, free food/beverages, booze, dancing, etc. I'm a member of the history center, and it's pricey, but sounds awesome. must be 21+ OMG.

I'm debating to go to that or see the icelandic danish band under byen at the warhol [thanks for correcting my error, young]. someone help me decide/vote.

    sappy sap sap.
lots of things are really great now. the only wish is that I had a better job, and that's pretty much it. or maybe, if I could tour a lotlotlotlot.

I was all smiles on my drive home from work today.

I want to start a side project this summer when kalon goes on the usual summer hiatus. I've been listening to way too much stuff like elliott ["song in the air" era], thedamnwells, clearlake, shipping news, engine down, etc.

so this next project will probably be something kinda slowcore or indie rock. kinda mellow, but happy sounding. if anyone's down, that would be pretty cool. I can play guitar, bass, drums, or keys, although I'd prefer to play guitar at this stage. it might just be a recorded album project, or a band that plays shows, depending on people's schedules.

I can't for the life of me remember if there are any local musicians on my friends list anymore. prove me wrong, I suppose!

and listen to self-evident, especially if you like bands like faraquet and medications.

oh fuck, I forgot. we're playing a whole boatload of shows.

february 11th - w/ in the wake of giants, the hodag, and victoria jackal @ garfield artworks, 8 PM.
march 3rd - w/ but cake, the resistors, spectral presence, FGC, tweelo, and zelico. 197 Fanker Rd. Harmony, PA 16037. FREE!, 6 PM.
march 5th - live on 88.3 FM WRCT, 9-10 PM.
march 25th - w/ them roaring twenties, victoria jackal, in the wake of giants. milgate st. in bloomfield PA. more TBA.

and I think we may be playing cmu spring carnival again. and um, hopefully the three rivers arts festival. and we may have another show in may with romance of young tigers, one of my favorite local tri-state area bands right now. they're like mono, so they're awesome.

oh, and to elongate this post and hopefully draw the ire of people going, "please cut your long posts!" I will refuse to do so. my second solo album will be out this spring, sometime. I'm all sold out of the first one, so if you want a copy, I'll probably have to AIM send/burn it for you.

it's really neat because I just googled my name the other day and apparently someone posted my album on some free music site, and it's been disseminated to a bunch of cddb-esque databases.

tell me what happens when you google your name in quotes.

as for the year end lists, fuck it. just listen to a lot of black sabbath and jesus lizard.

what a fucking abuse of power.

I really hope the CSO's get penalized for this.

this is probably super old to 99% of you, but on ucla campus a week or so ago, an iranian student was tasered for not showing his ID, and several of his peers were also threatened with the tasers if they tried to stop the cops from hurting this kid. fucking ridiculous.

oh, we're playing. and there's a DJ playing some awesome music after us. and chances are that there will be people that love and have booze, too. house-party atmosphere.

hollywood was fucking awesome. got to meet lots of musicians, people that do dronology/odd time signatures/just intonation. there was the warm weather, beautiful people, and I got to hang out with the coolest person in LA, [info]infruition. do I really have to be back and working in pittsburgh already?

I did miss my friends here, though. and I missed being surrounded by trees and plants, rather than tourists and consumerism.

and holy shit, I totally forgot how full of hooks this modest mouse album is.

This is to help generate money for the organization, which continually provides a fresh sound to the city. This is the first time they've ever hosted bands, and all of the musicians, volunteers, sound engineers, lighting crew, etc. are participating free of charge to help raise money for this organization, which is run by Phil Thompson from the University of Pittsburgh's Music Education Department.

It's going to be really exciting and amazing, so PLEASE attend if you can!

people are meeting at my house around 2 PM. we'll go park-hopping. it's kinda like bar-hopping, except it has nothing to do with bars. everyone is cooking food. we're all bringing musical instruments, and we're going to be outside all day. bring other various activities [such as frisbee, or we might even get a NOMIC game going].

so, I'm turning 23 on august 7th. in observance of that, I'm having a get-together on august 5th or 6th, depending on the weather. I'll know better probably by wednesday. any of yinz interested? it's going to involve going to park(s), bringing musical instruments and playing them, and eating food [provided by anyone that wants to cook, including organic brownies by yours truly, and some amazing indian food cooked by my mom]. there will be veg/non-veg options. let me know via AIM/phone/LJ/e-mail if you want to be a part of this/need a ride/etc.

also, this sunday is a classical south indian concert. it's free, at 3 PM at schenley park. there will be indian food served by namaste, and it's < $10 for you to get a full meal. the proceeds [if you choose to eat/donate] are going to underprivelaged children in india. you all should go to this.

and FINALLY, i have 3 free tickets to see phoenix/the french kicks/black tie affair on wednesday at the rex. it starts at 7:30 PM. let me know if any of you want to go. this ship has sailed.
